Why Therapy?

Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out exactly what we are experiencing. You may feel sad, irritable, quick to anger or you may find yourself in the depths of excessive worry. The challenge can be that we are so close to our issue, we can’t always see clearly.

Therapy provides a space to step outside the chaos, the tornado of our own thoughts and emotions. Talking with a Therapist can help you sort through the clutter of your mind. Gaining a new perspective for more effective navigation of the shared human experience.

Everyone is going through something. You are not alone. You have the ability to live more in ease. Through therapy you can fine tune skills you already have and discover new tools to manage the daily stressors.

Searching for a Therapist

Call to discuss setting up an appointment. When possible you want to be able to have a brief  conversation with the therapist by phone. Get a sense of the therapist's personality. While it will be just a snapshot, it can be helpful to get a feel of what it is like to talk to the therapist. Not every therapist will be a match for you and that is okay. Don't be afraid to ask questions about the process of therapy as well their therapeutic approach. Not every therapist is meant to address all issues. There are specialties within the field. Have a discussion about whether the therapist may be able to meet your needs.

How long does Therapy last?

Ideally, if schedules permit, it is recommended to meet with your therapist weekly and reduce frequency over time. Be aware that although the goal is for improved mood and function, it is a process and it takes time.

What to expect in the first Session

An initial session in my practice will be an hour long. You will be asked questions about family and support system. In addition, there will questions about your history of symptoms as well as previous therapeutic experiences. There will be a review of what is bringing you into therapy.

I often recommend Clients attend at least three sessions to get a sense of whether it will be a good fit for them. At the end of the first session you will schedule your next appointment.

Cost of Therapy

My practice is private pay. Some insurances have what is known as Out of Network Benefits. This benefit will cover a small portion of session fees for Providers who do not participate in your insurance. If you are unsure if you have these benefits, we can check for you.
